CATX2 Composite
Marucci's full-composite USA bat brings flagship-level barrel tech to the Little League/Pony market. It is hot out of the wrapper and currently heavily discounted, which makes it one of the better-value premium USA bats right now.
The Score
How we score βHow big and forgiving the barrel is β based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured lab numbers (GameChanger Bat Lab, Bat Digest) when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certificationβs performance ceiling.
How the weight is distributed β balanced (faster, more control) vs end-loaded (more mass, more power) β and who the swing actually suits.
Comfort and feedback on contact β vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it β documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brandβs real warranty record.
Performance per dollar β the overall package weighed against its price and what comparable bats cost.
Why this score: Flagship composite barrel tech earns high sweet-spot and feel marks, and the heavy current discount drives a strong value score. Power is very good rather than elite for a USA bat (USA standard caps barrel performance), and durability is rated solid but not perfect given composite construction.
Our Review
The CATX2 Composite carries Marucci's top barrel technology into a USA-stamped youth bat: a two-piece, all-composite build with a ring-free MDX barrel and the less-stiff S-25 handle, plus liquid-gel dampening at both ends. It plays hot right away and stays smooth on contact, and parent reviews note it feels lighter and more balanced than its drop suggests. At list price it is expensive for a USA bat, but it is currently selling well under MSRP, which flips it into genuine value territory. As with any composite, factor in some long-term durability risk. No independent lab exit-velocity number was confirmed for this model.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Ring-free two-piece composite barrel is hot immediately with no dead spots
- Liquid-gel anti-vibration in the knob and end cap keeps the swing smooth
- Currently discounted well below MSRP, making it strong value
Cons
- Full $399.99 MSRP is steep for a youth USA bat at list price
- Composite barrels still carry more long-term durability risk than alloy
